Our story
The Sustainability Seal project is a simple idea that gives you and me the power to stop the tidal wave of single-use plastics in our world.
The project began in the fall of 2019 when Niamh, a life-long educator, took a Pachamama Alliance course on Project Drawdown whose mission is to literally draw down the amount of carbon in the atmosphere. Among the solutions is the elimination of plastics made from petrochemicals. The literal seas of plastic kept Niamh awake at night, so she started noticing where and when she and those around her used plastics. Top of the list? Restaurants and carry-out. An idea began to grow. What if restaurants and individuals collaborated to stop the endless stream of plastic; restaurants promise not to provide it, and individuals promise not to ask for it, and instead expect sustainable containers?
Niamh shared the seed of the idea with other green-types, and soon the idea burgeoned to include any organization committed to a world free of single-use plastic. When one person takes this step it is small; when we take the step together, we are a force for change.
